Great Family Days out near Walnut Farm

There are so many great activities and things to do near Walnut Farm Glamping, especially now that the weather is starting to get better (fingers crossed) and the days are getting longer.

We took a few days as a family during half term to enjoy some great days out – all highly recommended for guests coming to stay with us during 2020!

We took a trip to Moors Valley Country Park & Forest and had a great day following the Play Trail – Lottie and Alice loved playing in all the wooden structures and climbing frames. There’s also a Gruffalo themed area, steam railway, cycle trails and a Go Ape course for the more adventurous! Moors Valley is about an hour from us at Walnut Farm – and is the perfect place for a day out in the countryside with the children.

We also had a great day hunting for fossils at Charmouth Beach. With all the wet weather we have had recently there are huge amounts of fossils on the beach, but they do take a bit of finding! If you are going to Charmouth to look for fossils be sure to visit the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre for help and advice, and to ensure you get the most from your visit. You can also book a place on one of their Fossil Hunting Walks which is a great way of learning more and improving you chances of finding something! The beach is great for the family – lots of sand especially at low tide, safe swimming, picnic areas, cafes and beach shops.

We had the most beautiful time walking from West Bay to Seatown this morning on the South West Coast Path , the sun was shining and we had the most spectacular views from the top of Thorncombe Beacon to Portland in the east and South Devon to the west. It took just over an hour and we rewarded ourselves with a coffee and hot chocolate at the always excellent Anchor Inn at Seatown.

There are plenty of other great days out close to Walnut Farm – Monkey World near Dorchester is a good place to visit and at Abbotsbury the Swannery, Gardens and Children’s Farm will keep the whole family entertained.

Most of our guests love to go out exploring the amazing West Dorset countryside, but some are perfectly happy staying here at the farm in their luxurious yurt, relaxing in the hot tub, lounging in the sunshine on their private deck or eating pizzas cooked in our traditional cob pizza oven. There really is something for everyone here at Walnut Farm!
